Note to Career Counselors

We at CareerEdgeSystem.com believe that our economy and workplaces are in a state of transition, comparable to the Industrial Revolution.

The sooner we realize that old expectations and many old job planning models may not work for unemployed people, the sooner we can serve their immediate and future needs.

Career Edge System Logo inspired by Hidden Faces Glass ArtThis can be especially difficult for people with literacy issues, disability issues and for older workers. People require guidance to help them open their minds to new opportunities in emerging job markets that were otherwise not considered or were unknown to them. That is why we are only assessing their Interests and leaving the rest of the career exploration to their discretion. Our philosophy is to allow them to delve into their true interests, and not to pigeonhole them through "subjective" self-assessments of their skills or personality traits. We give them their interest-based job matches and also invaluable information on all the jobs within O*NET. They can choose to go outside their expressed interests and explore any jobs. We give them the advanced technology to do this in a logical, systematic way and the format of a comprehensive tool and workbook. The program is in larger font and we have an audio tool to allow clients to listen to the information within our site (but there is not audio available if they link outside our program).

Looking at different possibilities, as one looks for the hidden faces in this glass art, may lead to a path previously hidden. As scary as this new career reality and these life transitions can be, it can alternatively be viewed through a positive lens. Concentrating on interests when possible, and anticipating and planning for inevitable future changes, can be an empowering experience.

Workers may have transferable skills that they have not considered in relation to tasks that they may have never heard of! They need your guidance through the Essential Skills Quiz in the Workbook, called “Thinking About Your Skill Set,” to visualize these possibilities. Some can even seize opportunities to develop their own businesses in affordable ways via the Internet - possibilities unheard of in past generations. Also available by special request and not available in audio is the Build Your Own Business Program™. It is a comprehensive self-employment assessment to help clients decide which area of self-employment might be most well-suited to their personality by categorizing potential areas such as small business ownership or consulting, for example. The BOB™ also provides guidance to help them understand the realities of the actual business start up. This program is recommended for high level readers only.

As career counselors, it will take your imagination and your dedication to your own life long learning and research to guide clients. It will also take your intuition to help them understand working environments that are appropriate to their skills, their personal and financial situations, and their values.

You can utilize their interest and values results under these assessments within the CES™ try to communicate with them in ways that they prefer, given what you know of their interests. Try to use all of the parts of your client's CES™ to help you understand the career possibilities that are realistic, yet perhaps even potentially ground-breaking, for your client. The Workbook can be used online or as a printed version. Both are available.

Nothing on this site is designed to be used to show that a client has the experience, skills or qualifications necessary for any job. The site has not been certified or approved by any Professional or Governmental entity for a particular use or certification. It is meant to be used only as an informal career exploration and planning tool. Please ensure that your clients are aware of this. You can track the amount of time clients spend on this tool through the administrative site that your program has available.

We suggest that you spend time looking through the Occupational Outlook Handbook and other invaluable online resource to keep yourself abreast of economic and workplace trends. Local free seminars and talks on the economy or workplace change can be wonderful resources as well. Just ask if you can attend, regardless of the sponsors. Local contacts are still the greatest resource for many clients, but technology and the job market are changing so rapidly that you must be always on the "cutting edge" if you are to serve your clients to your utmost ability.

We sincerely hope that this CES™ will help you and your clients begin to conquer this new world of work. We have tried to make the task much less daunting and much more manageable, not only through technology but through the comprehensive nature of the tool.
